THAILAND CLIMATE & HOTEL PLANNING GUIDE
Best Time to Visit ThailandMonth-by-month weather, sea conditions and where to stay.
Thailand is a year-round destination, but knowing when each coast experiences clear skies and calm waters makes all the difference. Because Thailand has two distinct coastlines affected by separate monsoon wind systems, you can almost always find idyllic tropical beach weather in any given month.

Understanding Thailand’s Two Coasts: The Split Monsoon Secret
The most important planning rule for a Thailand beach holiday is that the Andaman Coast (west) and the Gulf of Thailand (east) experience opposite monsoon peaks:
The Andaman Coast (Nov to Apr)
Destinations: Phuket, Krabi (Ao Nang, Railay), Khao Lak, Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi.
The Southwest Monsoon brings ocean swells and rain from May through October. By November, winds shift, ushering in 6 months of glassy turquoise seas, cloudless skies, and world-class diving at the Similan and Surin Islands.

Destinations: Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao.
While the rest of Southeast Asia experiences summer monsoon rains from June to August, the lower Gulf islands enjoy dry, sunny beach days and gentle water. In contrast, the Gulf experiences its heaviest rainfall and swells from late October through December.

The Cool & Dry Season
The most popular time to visit. Temperatures are pleasant nationwide (22–30°C in the south, 14–26°C in the north). Humidity is comfortable, rainfall is minimal, and seas on the Andaman coast are mirror-flat. High season hotel rates apply; advance booking is strongly recommended.
The Hot & Sunny Season
Daytime temperatures reach 32–37°C. Excellent for beachgoers and divers on both coasts. April brings the joyful 3-day nationwide water festival of Songkran (Thai New Year). Choose hotels with refreshing swimming pools and beachfront breezes.
The Green & Value Season
Rain falls primarily in 1-hour afternoon or evening tropical downpours rather than all-day washouts. The Gulf islands (Samui, Phangan, Tao) remain sunny through August. Forests, waterfalls, and rice terraces are at their most vibrant green, and five-star luxury resorts offer discounts of 40% to 60%.
